AF100 Pop-Up

Celebrating 35 years of Nike's Air Force 1.

This year marks the 35th anniversary of Nike’s Air Force 1 pioneering silhouette in their basketball line and a sneaker that’s become a powerful symbol of the brand’s importance to sporting and street culture.

To celebrate, Nike commissioned 5 acclaimed Chinese designers to create their own variants of the AF100 - the product code for the shoe’s original and iconic all-white colourway. We were asked to accompany this release with a pop-up event in Beijing that would pay tribute to both the shoe’s history and to the creativity of these designers in developing their own takes on its form.

Our concept attempted to reconcile the clean, all-white aesthetic of the AF100 with the vibrance and inventiveness of the collaborators Nike chose to work with.We invited visitors to customise their own all-white AF1s, using it as a canvas for their own artistic expression. At all times was the heritage of the shoe also to be highlighted, with design elements from it writ large in on-site installations and its basketball origins emphasised.
