The OG magazine: Edition 05

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve worked with @theonline.gallery again to create their 5th issue, which coincides with Frieze Los Angeles 22. We continue our role as magazine designers, along with our sister company Against Time.

The team behind the magazine is formed of 3 creative organizations: Rosie Lee Creative, Against Time, and The Online Gallery. The on-going collaboration sees The OG team (Online Gallery) curating the magazine, working with content collaborators, and generating imagery and content. Sister companies Rosie Lee Creative and Against Time working on the design, typography and illustration of the magazine.

This edition of the OG Magazine sought to shine a spotlight on those who hold ‘Legacy’, highlighting those who have upheld heritage and traditions while also redefining spaces and catalyzing change.

The magazine dives deep into the work and practice of some huge names such as Mickalene Thomas, Shepard Fairey, Jonathan Mannion and Studio Drift as well as interview content courtesy of Rich Tu who speaks with both The Hundreds and Melody Ehsani.

“Legacies exist as property, money or ideas bequeathed from one individual to another, spanning generations and time. They are lasting impressions or a gesture toward “forever,” implying history, longevity and permanence. And yet the events, and actions that make them, are rare examples of ingenuity and innovation — anomalies that break patterns and contradict the notion of continuity, which ironically is integral to the concept of legacy.”

Ché Morales, Founder & Creative Director

The talented list of contributors form the inspiration for the experimental layout design, influencing color and typographic choices that aim to encapsulate certain characteristics about the contributors and their work. The evolution of the magazine has led to each feature having a different identity, this energy and visual excitement is a huge part of the online gallery magazine aesthetic. The design team's curation and design work looks to expertly orchestrate the pace and emotion of the magazine, with each page turn competing to be as visually exciting as the next.
